description of works

“The Many Sides of Voice Actor Radio” (Japanese: 声優ラジオのウラオモテ, Seiyū Rajio no Ura Omote)  is an upcoming anime series set to air in 2024, based on a light novel series by Kou Nigatsu.

The story revolves around young voice actresses Yasumi Utatane (Yumiko Sato) and Yuuhi Yuugure (Chika Watanabe), who are also high school classmates.

They are unexpectedly chosen to host a radio program together. However, their initial encounter at the recording studio is far from friendly,

as they had a quarrel at school on the same day, unaware that they are each other’s secret voice acting persona.

Despite their clashing personalities and constant bickering, the show must go on, leading them to work together on the radio, in anime,

and at events, gradually acknowledging each other as rivals and overcoming troubles together.

The story highlights the lives of high school voice actors, portraying their professional achievements and the stark contrast to their personal lives off the air.

synopsis.

“Seiyuu Radio no Uraomote” follows Yuuhi and Yasumi, high school classmates and voice actresses who host a radio show, pretending to be best friends on air.

However, their real relationship is full of conflict, with Yuuhi being introverted and Yasumi a true gyaru, leading to constant off-air bickering.

Despite their differences and the challenges they face, the necessity to maintain their on-air personas forces them to continue working together,

showcasing the contrast between their public facades and private disputes in this youth voice acting entertainment story.

Introducing Characters

Yasumi Utatane (歌種 やすみ, Utatane Yasumi) / Yumiko Satō (佐藤 由美子, Satō Yumiko)

The main character is a high school junior with a lively and cute persona, yet in reality, she’s a gyaru.

She’s with Choco Brownie voice acting agency, born on October 12, and in her third year of voice acting, currently facing challenges with auditions.

After her father’s passing in an accident, she lives with her mother, who works at a snack bar, in their family home.

She excels in cooking and dreams of voicing in the “Magical Girl Prettyia” anime series. While she clashes with Chika, she acknowledges Yuuhi Yuugure’s talents.

Yūhi Yūgure (夕暮 夕陽, Yūgure Yūhi) / Chika Watanabe (渡辺 千佳, Watanabe Chika)

The other main character is a high school junior portrayed as a calm and natural voice actress, but in reality, she’s unnoticeable and plain at school.

She’s part of Blue Crown voice acting agency, born on March 15, and is in her second year of voice acting, starting to make a name for herself.

Her parents are divorced, and she lives with her lawyer mother in a high-rise apartment. She’s terrible at cooking but a fan of the deeply thematic “Kamishiro Anime,” aiming to act in it. Despite her issues with Yumiko, she recognizes Yasumi Utatane’s talent.

Otome Sakuranamiki (桜並木 乙女, Sakuranamiki Otome)

A popular voice actress at 21, affiliated with Trinity voice acting agency, born on April 14. She plays the eldest sister in the anime “Under the Purple Sky,”

forming a unit named Heart Tart with Yuuhi (the second sister) and Yasumi (the youngest sister) for CD releases and events.

She has previously worked with Yasumi in “Travel★Winters” and is closely referred to as “big sister” by Yumiko, maintaining a personal relationship beyond their professional collaboration.

Mekuru Yubisaki (柚日咲 めくる, Yubisaki Mekuru)

Yubisaki Mekuru, real name Anna Fujii, debuts in volume 2 of the novel. A colleague of Sakuramiki Otome and a senior at Blue Crown voice acting agency to Yuuhi, born on February 14.

Though not prolific in anime roles, she’s renowned for her skills as a talk show host and radio personality.

Publicly, she’s irked by Yuuhi and Yasumi’s past actions but is privately a fan and an otaku. She avoids personal interactions with voice actors and industry people outside of her colleague, Yomatsuri Hanabi.
